After Dark by GRANT.: Seven Late-Night R&B Songs, Coming Soon

Every label has a record that sets the tone for everything after it. At Grant Music Group, that record is After Dark, the debut album from GRANT., the label's flagship act. It's listed in our store now and marked coming soon — and if you want to know the minute it's ready, there's one easy way to be first in line.
GRANT. is a contemporary R&B recording artist. After Dark is a late-night record about wanting someone you should leave alone. Seven songs. No skits. It's grown-man R&B: he knows better, and he's still going back.
The sound of After Dark
The lane is soulful mid-tempos you can ride to — not a crawl, not radio pop — sitting in a pocket of roughly 88 to 96 BPM. Think Rhodes piano, deep rounded bass, crisp snare, laid-back pocket drums, atmospheric pads and tasteful clean guitar, with lush stacked harmonies on every chorus.
And then there's the voice: warm and slightly worn, with church in the runs and bedroom in the low notes. GRANT. leads with his chest voice and saves the falsetto for runs and ad-libs. It's the same voice on every After Dark record, and it carries the album from the first track to the last.
The tracklist
Whatever It Is — the pull. A complicated attraction. You know it's bad. You stay. It's the lead single from the album.
Take Your Time — a making-love record, after she's already in the room.
Don't Act Surprised — a grown, catchy, bad-boy vibe record. A car song.
You Chose — she has a man at home and keeps coming back. Intimate and edgy.
Handcuffs — a call-out to the man she goes home to: bills, bedroom, argument.
Big D Energy — the alpha takeover. Presence, bedroom, backbone.
Getaway — the escape record. Windows down, phones down, hotel by midnight.
Taken together, those seven songs cover the topics GRANT. keeps coming back to: the thing you can't explain, making love, cheating, control and the getaway. The visual world matches the music — dim amber and deep red, hotel hallways, low-lit studios, backseats and after-hours lounges. Cinematic, with no costume.
